Jesus commanded his disciples "make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," (Matt. 28:20 NIV).  So water baptism is commanded.  Also, in the New Testament baptism usually took place very shortly after a person's conversion.  Once a person asks Jesus to save him and repents of his sin, water baptism should follow shortly thereafter.  To be clear, baptism does not save anyone or even help save him.  Rather, it is an outward expression of an inward faith.  When a married person wears a wedding band, it does not make him/her married.  It simply shows other people that a marriage has already taken place.  When a believer is baptized, it does not make him saved.  Rather, it shows other people that a salvation experience has already taken place.  When a person turns his/her life over to God, this is a happy day.  So baptisms at Infinity Bible Church are joyous times as we celebrate someone's new found faith.  There is laughter, singing, shouting, and often happy tears.
